Uber Launches Membership Programme in Kenya Offering Savings and Rewards

Customers of the taxi-hailing app Uber can now subscribe to its membership program, Uber One, which guarantees savings and rewards for rides and orders.
The program was officially unveiled in Kenya, making it the second African country to roll out the service after South Africa, where it launched in 2023.

Under the Uber One membership, customers can opt for a monthly subscription fee of Sh280 or an annual fee of Sh2,800. Subscribers will enjoy discounted rates on rides, delivery services, and grocery orders.
“The first month of Uber One is free, allowing members to experience the benefits, including 5 percent off all economy rides, 10 percent off premium rides, and zero delivery fees on orders,” said Imran Manji, Uber’s Head of East Africa and Business Development for Africa, during the launch event in Nairobi.
Uber’s premium rides category includes Uber Van, Uber XL, and Uber Comfort, while the economy rides cover options like Uber Chap Chap, Uber Boda, and the electric Boda.
Globally, the Uber One program has already been introduced in countries such as Sri Lanka, the USA, the United Kingdom, Canada, Portugal, and Germany.
Mr. Manji emphasized that the service is tailored for frequent Uber users, offering value through reduced fees, loyalty perks, and enhanced convenience.
Uber piloted the program in Kenya in November 2024, witnessing a positive reception from customers keen on seamless and cost-effective services.
“The Uber One program was crafted with evolving consumer needs in mind, ensuring they receive the best value for their money,” said Kui Mbugua Macharia, Uber Eats General Manager for Kenya.
To join Uber One, customers can simply open the Uber or Uber Eats apps, navigate to their account, and select the Uber One option.
