US Enforces Stricter Visa Regime Targeting African Nations

The Trump administration is intensifying travel restrictions on several African nations, imposing sweeping visa bans and heightened entry requirements.
The latest measures, which target multiple countries, come just days after Washington expelled South Africa’s envoy, further straining relations with the continent.
Expanded Travel Restrictions
The US government is preparing to enforce a three-tiered travel policy, with some countries facing complete visa suspensions, others subjected to limited access, and a third group under review.
A full travel ban is set to be imposed on at least 10 nations, effectively blocking their citizens from obtaining any category of US visas.
Among those affected are Libya, Sudan, and Somalia, which will see restrictions covering tourism, business, and immigration pathways.
Targeted Restrictions
A second group of countries, including Eritrea and South Sudan, will be subject to partial bans, primarily affecting non-immigrant visas such as those for students and tourists.
This move could significantly impact educational and economic ties between the US and these nations.
Nations Under Review
More than 20 countries, including Angola, Cameroon, and Zimbabwe, have been placed under a security compliance review.
They have been given a deadline to meet specific US security standards, failing which they could face travel restrictions similar to those already imposed on other nations.
South African Envoy Expelled
Tensions escalated further following the recent expulsion of South Africa’s ambassador to the US.
Washington accused the envoy of promoting anti-American rhetoric and ordered his departure within a week.
The move is expected to deepen diplomatic rifts between the two countries, particularly as South Africa has taken an increasingly critical stance on US foreign policy.
The latest restrictions reflect a broader shift in international engagement under Trump’s leadership.
The administration has increasingly focused on tightening immigration policies while taking a harder line on nations it perceives as security risks.
The move signals a changing world order, with Washington adopting a more unilateral and aggressive approach to foreign affairs.
As the new measures take effect, diplomatic relations between the US and African nations are likely to enter a period of heightened tension, with potential consequences for trade, security cooperation, and global mobility.
