US President Donald Trump is bracing for a major standoff with Middle Eastern nations following his proposal to push Palestinians out of Gaza and establish a US-controlled territory in the enclave.

The plan, which he suggested could involve American troops, has already sparked backlash from key regional players.

Trump, speaking at the White House alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said the United States would “take over” Gaza and develop it into what he described as a “new Riviera.”

He claimed the move would bring stability to the Middle East and create jobs, while insisting that Palestinians should leave. “As far as Gaza is concerned, we’ll do what is necessary,” he said.

“We’re going to take over that piece, we’re going to develop it.”

However, Middle Eastern countries Trump hoped would accommodate displaced Gazans have already rejected the proposal.

Egypt and Jordan, historically the main recipients of Palestinian refugees, dismissed the idea, citing fears of destabilisation and concerns that displaced Palestinians would never be allowed to return.

The plan raises legal and logistical questions about U.S. authority over the territory and how such a takeover would be funded.

Mr Trump’s presidency is expected to reshape global geopolitics, particularly as the world grapples with ongoing wars and climate change challenges.

His remarks came after a meeting with Netanyahu, reinforcing his administration’s close ties with Israel.

While Trump presented the proposal is likely to inflame tensions and further complicate efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
