Ruto Hosts Africa Green Industrialisation Talks in Nairobi Today

Kenyan President William Ruto is hosting a high-level consultative meeting in Nairobi on Friday to advance the Africa Green Industrialisation Initiative (AGII), a continent-wide drive to promote climate-smart manufacturing and sustainable industrial growth.
The talks, to be held at State House Nairobi, bring together key figures from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), including Secretary-General Wamkele Mene, as well as representatives from top African financial institutions, development banks, and the African Union Commission.
Endorsed by the African Union in February, AGII seeks to establish Africa as a global hub for green industrialisation.
The initiative is aligned with the Nairobi Declaration on climate action and is seen as a pathway to job creation, resilient economic growth, and structural transformation.
Participants in Thursday’s meeting include the African Development Bank (AfDB), Afreximbank, Africa50, Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), Standard Bank Kenya, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), KCB Group, and Equity Group Holdings.
Organisers say the goal is to design a continent-wide financing framework to support green industrial clusters, with African financial institutions expected to play a pivotal role not only in funding but also in shaping a financing model that reflects the region’s development realities.
The meeting marks a key milestone in translating AGII from a pan-African vision into practical implementation, laying the groundwork for large-scale investment in climate-resilient and sustainable industry.
