KQ Suspends Flights indefinitely to Mayotte

Kenya Airways has indefinitely suspended flights to Mayotte due to the impact of Tropical Cyclone Chido, which hit the Indian Ocean islands of Mayotte and Comoros on December 14, 2024. The airline had planned to resume normal operations to Mayotte on Monday, December 16.
Government authorities in both countries issued alerts following the cyclone, which caused widespread disruptions. While the airport in Comoros has reopened, Mayotte’s airport remains closed until further notice.
“For the safety of our staff and customers, our flights into Mayotte remain suspended until further notice. Flights to Comoros will resume later this evening,” Kenya Airways said in a statement.
The carrier apologised for the disruption and assured travellers that their safety, as well as that of staff, remains a top priority. “We continue to monitor the situation and will give further updates as soon as we have more information,” it added.
Cyclone Chido, which made landfall on December 14, has affected the region with heavy rains and strong winds, forcing temporary suspensions of flight operations. Kenya Airways has expressed solidarity with those impacted, saying it will support recovery efforts during the aftermath of the cyclone.
The cyclone was expected to persist over the region until December 16, with authorities warning of potential risks to infrastructure and travel.
